POSITION SUMMARY

Directs development of design program for electrical power transformers to comply with company and transformer industry standards and customers’ requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Run quotation designs for sales departments that will then be reviewed by an Engineering Manager/Supervisor before going to sales.
  • Ensure Transformer reliability for Various Dielectric Tests, Thermal behavior and Short circuit behavior of Transformer by using appropriate Tools for Large power Transformers and Autotransformers up to 500MVA and 525kV class by using industry standards that govern the design and test of transformers.
  • Attend customer design reviews and assist production department when needed.
  • Analyze data to determine feasibility of product proposal and confer with sales, manufacturing, and other engineering personnel to clarify or resolve problems.
  • Take charge of electrical advance material ordering (AO), design and packaging for routine jobs where packages for such similar jobs are already available.
  • Make sketches and nameplate drawings (CAD) as required for jobs and other drawings as directed by Engineering manager/Supervisor.
  • Make complex transformer designs such as LTC, Regulator, Grounding Transformer, Single Phase and Auto with direction from Engineering manager/Supervisor.
  • Analyze historical test data/reports to determine if designs will meet functional and performance specifications and prepares design modifications as needed.
  • Take turnkey responsibility for cost and performance of medium complexity jobs.
  • Check routine jobs of same complexity done by design assistants or other designers for design and packaging accuracy.
  • Review test data and sign test report for assigned job.
  • Exercise judgment in selecting design parameters.
  • Costing analysis of every project
  • Assist Engineering Manager/supervisor on small developmental projects.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

Requires bachelor’s degree (or equivalent*) in Electrical Engineering or related field.

EXPERIENCE

  1. Perform daily, weekly and monthly checks of specific process steps and other items or procedures.
  2. Inspect selected incoming commodity materials each month.
  3. Collect winding data, engineering and shop defect data and report monthly.
  4. Chart and plot data as directed to perform trend analysis.
  5. Verify compliance of transformer against engineering design information prior to approving for shipment.

  13. Use specific test equipment to verify unit parameters are correct.

  Preferred Experience 

  1. Two-year technical degree or equivalent education.

  3. Proficient math, analytical, trouble-shooting and communication skills

Summary:  The Test Engineer tests transformers, control components and circuits to comply with GTC/VTC and industry standards and customers’ requirements; he/she inspects products before and after assembly for conformance with GTC/VTC’s internal design requirements and customers’ specifications.

Essential functions include, but are not limited to:

  1. Perform routine tests. (ratio, phase rotation, resistance, impedance and loss measurements, Power factor, Megger, etc.)
  2. Perform high voltage tests on transformers (Impulse, Partial discharge, Hypot, Double induction, etc.)
  3. Troubleshoot for problems in case of failure.
  4. Take oil samples from main tank and transformers and carry out di-electric test. Send samples out for special tests.
  5. Perform pre-assembly ratio tests & troubleshoot whenever required.
  6. Inspect product in-process and after assembly to determine quality. Inspection shall include Engineering drawings, outlines and designs, mechanical dimensions, electrical wiring, and overall appearance of product.  Write NCR’s for non-conformance items.  Follow-up NCR’s through rectification or obtain approval before final stamp for shipping.  Maintain records of non-conformance.  Correct those items which can be handled by test technicians.
  7. Accept responsibility for quality control stamps and affix stamps on product after inspection. Sign off the check sheets once the unit is tested.
  8. Become familiar with VTC’s and industry standards for testing VTC product.
  9. Learn to operate and maintain all VTC test equipment. Maintain clean test area at all times.
  10. Observe all safety procedures while testing and require the same from others present in the test area such as customer inspections.
  11. Move product as required.
  12. Preparation of test folders/reports and submission for approval.
  13. Assure that measured data is appropriate by verifying the appropriateness of test procedures.
  14. Correct measured data for temperature and other environmental/set-up variables.
  15. Maintain neat and orderly work areas.
  16. Satisfy all performance requirements as determined by supervisor, as well as attendance guidelines as prescribed by the Employee Handbook.
