Mechanical Engineer

FLSA Status:  Exempt              Reports To:         VTCU Engineering Manager

Amount of Travel Required: 0-10%          Positions Supervised:  None

 

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible optimize the mechanical system for containing the electrical assembly of power transformers using and applying mechanical design principles, research data, appropriate industry standards and proposed product specifications.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Demonstrates the skills and abilities of power transformer Mechanical Designer (or closely related field) normally gained through a 4-year degree, or a 2-year degree and 5+ years’ experience.
  • Demonstrates sound understanding and use of AutoCAD.
  • Design mechanical components such as brackets and mounting structures; create 2D and 3D parametric models, components tolerance stack-ups and component packaging.
  • Proven ability to independently make drawings for transformer winding, assembly and outline drawing.
  • Proven ability to accurately and independently read and interpret customer specifications.
  • Proven ability to independently prepare outline and detailed drawings of transformers for manufacturing operations.
  • Demonstrates basic multi-tasking abilities.
  • Preferred candidates would have ability to apply principles and techniques of transformer design layouts, routing and schematics to ASME & Building code standards.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology, or Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology, plus five years’ equivalent experience in design, drafting, or testing.

Experience

Good understanding CAD tool such as Inventor/Solidworks/Unigraphics.

3+ years relevant experience in transformer or other power-related products preferred. Familiarity with finite element techniques.

Computer Skills

MS Office, engineering design software.
